Canadian R&B singer-songwriter Daniel Caesar (28\u00b7Daniel Caesar) constantly repeated “not enough” on a ship while traveling in southern France. -What is the difference between this album and the previous ones?<\/p>\n
\u201cI was able to play a role as a leader while being directly involved in a much more proactive way. In the past, I became a mentor to the team and gave various musical lessons, but this time it felt like I was sitting in the driver\u2019s seat and leading the way. This time, I was working on an album. I worked with a new team, and I worked with the feeling of opening a new era based on the experience accumulated so far.<\/p>\n
-In this album, there was a part where the chord progression felt different from common R&B music. Wasn’t there any fear that the listeners would feel unfamiliar while making this kind of music?<\/p>\n
“Of course I was worried. I hoped that listeners wouldn’t take it too strangely when they heard this music, but I also know that they come to listen to my music for this kind of novelty. I’ve always wanted to change the definition of R&B. In fact, while listening to R&B, It wasn’t the first time I started playing music, but listening to D’Angelo’s ‘Voodoo’ (D’Angelo is the godfather of Neo Soul, ‘Voodoo’ is known as a masterpiece in the soul genre) changed my life drastically. I even made my debut EP inspired by this music. I am using fear to gain courage and rely on it to change my attitude.”<\/p>\n
-What is Daniel Caesar’s R&B?<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst of all, there are a lot of elements with guitar. The second is melancholy, and the third is very simple and direct elements. Also, there are a lot of metaphors and metaphors. is conveyed simply. Lastly, an interesting baseline is important.”<\/p>\n
– How did your style come through in Justin Bieber’s ‘Peaches’, which you featured in?

“Because I think it’s important to build various layers of background vocals and harmony in a song, I think a lot of my style went into that. After the song was released, people recognized me more on the street, and my voice was heard on the radio that way. This is the first time I’ve heard that a lot came out. – Overall, the album has a bluesy feel. The actual album itself is also blue. Do you usually think that the color of your music is blue?<\/p>\n
\u201cThe color of my music is definitely \u2018blue.\u2019 It\u2019s blue with a little bit of green in the middle, and a little bit of yellow. It’s because I think. I think that’s the color that symbolizes life to me.”<\/p>\n
– Among the album tracks, ‘Vince Van Gogh’ seems to contain elements that are different and psychedelic from the other b-side tracks.<\/p>\n
“This track is a song that makes me feel like I’m proud of my achievements. Unlike Van Gogh’s life (who never received recognition for his paintings), I boast that I will receive recognition for my music during my lifetime. The reason why it gave off a psychedelic feeling is because it melted the irony of being known and recognized by the public, and also because it made a song that I really want to hear.”<\/p>\n
-I’m curious about your impression of meeting Korean fans in Korea before. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I think of Korea, the first performance is very memorable. The audience was so quiet in the backstage before going on stage. It’s the part where I felt that there was a center. Also, when I first visited Korea, I went out to eat meat with my fans, and I drank too much soju at that time. I remember how I got into the house, but I drank so much that I couldn’t remember the way. It was fun. haha.

-What do you think about Korean musicians’ music and the music market?<\/p>\n
\u201cTo be honest, I don\u2019t know much about the Korean music market. When I first visited Korea, I remember meeting singer DEAN and his friends and visiting the studio. I\u2019ve been close with Dean ever since. As expected, since I often visit LA, I meet and get along well every time. I think they are good friends. The K-pop scene itself is a phenomenon that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. It is the only one that has a huge fandom that reminds me of the old Beatles. I think it’s a phenomenon.”<\/p>\n
-I heard that you enjoy chess enough to carry a chess board. <\/p>\n
“The reason I like chess is because I think chess is ‘the perfect game’. Unlike art, chess has clear winners and losers, or clear draws. Music is so subjective, especially music and commercial ones. Is it good music because it’s selling a lot, or is it really bad music because it’s selling poorly. Those things are so subjective and you can get offended if you start paying attention.
