Gershwin is a musician who has captured both popular and artistic areas in the history of modern music, crossing the classical and jazz genres. He continues to be a constant source of inspiration for countless musicians to this day.
The motif of this performance by Kang Jae-Hoon Trio is the 1959 work of the same name by pianist Oscar Peterson, among several jazz alums produced under the name of ‘Gershwin Songbook’. It puts forward sophisticated sound, pleasant swing feeling, and simple improvisation. Above all, they announced the delicate and balanced ‘interplay’ of piano, bass, and drums.
Jaehoon Kang is the first Korean to pass and graduate from the Juilliard School of Music, Jazz Studies. He is active in a number of groups, including his own leader activity, Woongsan Band, Kim Joo-hwan Band, and Seo Su-jin Coloris Trio. He played at the EFG Festival in England, the Jarasum International Jazz Festival in Korea, and the Seoul Jazz Festival.
Along with solid performers Park Jin-gyo and Choi Moo-hyun, it is said that they are inheriting the style and form of traditional American jazz, which is classified as straight ahead, a thoroughly swing-based traditional jazz.
