Reporter Lee Jae-hoon = Japanese master musician Joe Hisaishi, who is known as the founder of ‘Ghibli Sound’, has teamed up with world-renowned classical music label Deutsche Grammophon (DG).
According to Universal Music, the parent company of Deutsche Grammophon, on the 30th, Joe Hisaishi released the album ‘Symphonic Celebration’ on the same day. This is the first album released through this label after signing an exclusive contract with DG.
Joe Hisaishi participated as music director for most of the works of Hayao Miyazaki, one of the founders of Japanese Studio Ghibli and the titular animation director. This album contains the OSTs of 10 Ghibli animations that he touched.
Songs that are familiar to Korean audiences, such as ‘Laputa Castle in the Sky’, ‘Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind’, ‘My Neighbor Totoro’, ‘Spirited Away’, ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’, and ‘Ponyo on the Cliff’, are performed by the UK’s top orchestra. It was reborn with the performance of the ‘Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’.
A DG official hinted, “During the first studio session last summer, Joe Hisaishi mesmerized the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and recording staff with thorough musicality, authoritative conducting, and friendly attitude.”
Joe Hisaishi is famous for his lyrical melodies and beautiful melodies. In particular, it is said that he makes emotional music that stimulates the nostalgia and innocence of childhood. He has won the Japan Academy Award for Best Music eight times.
Also, the movie ‘Good’bye’ (2008), in which ‘Departures’ composed by him was inserted, won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2009. In Korea, he raised awareness while working on music such as the movie ‘Welcome to Dongmakgol’ (2005) and MBC TV’s ‘The Legend of the King’ (2007). The OSTs of ‘Welcome to Dongmakgol’ and ‘Taewangsashingi’ received the Best Film Music Award at the 4th MBC Korea Film Awards and the Best Film Music Award in the TV category of the International Film Critics Association.
