Correspondent Lee Jae-hoon = Hyundai Card Vice Chairman Jeong Tae-young apologized for causing misunderstandings, saying that he did not do any star marketing in relation to the concert in Korea of American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars, who disputed the preferential viewing of celebrities.
Vice Chairman Chung said on his social media on the 20th, “It is one of the long-standing principles of Hyundai Card marketing that there is no celebrity marketing at events along with advertisements.”
Regarding the reason for this, he explained, “First, there is no differentiation because other brands, such as luxury gallery hotels, do so much celebrity marketing, and second, if you treat celebrities with respect, you cannot focus on the essence of the event.” He emphasized, “From Hyundai Card’s point of view, the only celebrity at this venue was Bruno Mars.”
However, he acknowledged, “A performance is an act in which various unfamiliar participants, such as artists, agencies, and organizers, coordinate each other’s positions for a single performance, and each time the position and scope are different, so there are things that are missed.” It seems that the celebrities were indirectly explaining that there were no choice but to be at the concert hall. He added, “Nevertheless, as it is an event under the name of Hyundai Card, we will pay more careful attention in a wide area in the future.”
Previously, the ‘Hyundai Card Super Concert 27 Bruno Mars’, which was held at the main stadium of Jamsil Sports Complex in Seoul on the afternoon of the 17th and 18th, was successfully completed with 101,000 people, the largest audience ever for a concert in Korea. However, controversy arose as witnesses continued to say that a large number of famous celebrities visited the scene, and many of them were seated in the best seats in front of the stage.
At the time of general reservation in April, music fans struggled with ticketing, with 1.16 million concurrent users, but it was because celebrities pointed out preferential treatment, saying that they received invitations and watched comfortably. Many netizens complained of a sense of relative deprivation, saying that the starting point was different from the beginning.
Hyundai Card started evolving by saying that they did not invite celebrities separately, and some celebrities even left online certification that they had purchased tickets for Mars.
