Reporter Lee Jae-hoon = The music video for the new single “Hate Rodrigo” by singer Choi Ye-na from the Korean-Japanese project girl group “IZ*ONE” has been switched to private.
According to the K-pop industry on the 30th, Choi Yena’s ‘Hate Rodrigo’ music video, which was released on YouTube on the 27th, cannot be found on YouTube as of 8 am on the same day.
‘Hate Rodrigo’, which Choi Ye-na participated in writing and composing, and featured Yuqi of the group ‘(G)I-DLE,’ is a song inspired by Olivia Rodrigo, an American pop star known as ‘Generation Z icon’, as the title suggests. Rodrigo, who has won three Grammys, is the hottest pop star recently.
The agency Yuehua Entertainment explained about “Hate Rodrigo” that it is a cute ironic expression of jealousy, “I hate all the kids who are better than me.” Choi Ye-na also said that Rodrigo is an object of admiration, and in this song, she added, “I maximized affection and admiration with ironic expressions.”
On the other hand, the boldness of naming the real name of a pop star who is in the heyday of the same era and quoting it in the song was appreciated. However, it was pointed out that ‘hate’ was attached to the title to induce ‘noise marketing’, and at the same time, the creativity of the concept was lacking. In particular, it was regrettable that this song did not advance to the level of a parody with respectful homages and jokes.
Choi Yena’s side has yet to give a clear explanation as to why the music video was turned private.
However, Rodrigo is announcing a new single ‘vampire’ on the same day, and it is expected that Rodrigo may have made a problem in part. Rodrigo will release his second full-length album ‘GUTS’ on September 8th.
