Reporter Lee Jae-hoon = The situation of the new K-pop girl group ‘FIFTY FIFTY’, which is cracking the British and American single charts with ‘CUPID’, is spreading into a war of disclosure.
Fifty Fifty’s agency, Attract, released a transcript on the 3rd, claiming that it is evidence that Dugiverse CEO Ahn Seong-il, who was in charge of producing Fifty Fifty’s music production service, attempted to extort members.
The recorded file contains a conversation between Attract CEO Jeon Hong-joon and Warner Music Korea (WomuCo) executives on May 9th. According to the transcript, a Warner Music Korea executive told CEO Jeon, “I made an offer of 20 billion won to CEO Ahn Seong-il for a buyout before.”
However, CEO Jeon said he did not know about the content and asked what a “buyout” was. Then, a Warner Music Korea executive replied, “We have taken over all the kids (Fifty Fifty).” Buyout is a term commonly used in professional sports. It refers to the fact that another agency can immediately negotiate with a singer belonging to that agency if a transfer fee of a certain amount or more is presented to the agency.
An official from Attract insisted on the transcript, “CEO Ahn Seong-il arbitrarily proceeded with the buyout of Fifty Fifty without approval from the agency’s Attract CEO, Jeon Hong-joon.”
Attract pointed out CEO Ahn as being behind the recent attempted extortion of Fifty Fifty. At the same time, on the 26th of last month, Attract sent a certificate of contents to Warner Music Korea. On the same day, Warner Music Korea explained that the related content was groundless.
In addition, on the 27th of the same month, CEO Jeon filed a complaint with the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul on charges of obstruction of business, damage to electronic records, fraud and breach of duty against CEO Ahn and three others. On the other hand, Dugiverse responded by saying, “We will take legal action against the false accusation against CEO Jeon Hong-joon and the company’s representative at Attract and the continuous spread of false information through the media.”
In the midst of this, the four members of Fifty Fifty, including Kina (20, main rapper), Saena (19, rhythm and main dancer), Shio (18, main vocalist), and Aran (18, lead vocalist), through a legal representative on the 19th of last month, attracted. filed an application for a temporary injunction to suspend the validity of the exclusive contract with the Seoul Central District Court. The four members said, “This is an action taken after Attract violated the contract and caused the destruction of the relationship of trust. A letter was sent out pointing out various problems and requesting correction, but Attract did not make any effort to explain the requirements and continued to press the press. Through this, the members’ honor was damaged.”
