Reporter Lee Jae-hoon = The 4th generation K-pop group ‘ATEEZ’ ranked second on the US Billboard main album chart ‘Billboard 200’, their highest ranking.
According to the Billboard chart preview article on the 25th (local time), ATEEZ’s 9th mini album ‘THE WORLD EP. ‘ recorded this ranking.
With their 8th mini album ‘THE WORLD EP.1: MOVEMENT’ released in July of last year, ATEEZ held the previous highest ranking of 3rd on the chart.
According to Luminate, a local album sales research company, above all, ‘Movement’ sold 50,000 copies, but this time, ‘Outlaw’ sold 105,500 copies, doubling sales in the North American market. In addition, the first single in Korea, ‘Spin Off: From the Witness’, which was released as an event between the two mini albums, ranked 7th on the ‘Billboard 200’, so it was recorded in the top 10 for three consecutive times.
Among the sales of ‘Outlaw’, physical album sales amounted to 101,000 copies. This is the 10th album that sold more than 100,000 physical copies in one week this year. Seven out of 10 are K-pop titles, mainly sold in collectible CD variants, Billboard said.
In addition, ATEEZ posted a total of 5 albums on the ‘Billboard 200’, including ‘Outlaw’. The year before last, the 7th mini album ‘Zero: Fever Part 3’ ranked 42nd and entered ‘Billboard 200’ for the first time. Last year’s repackaged EP ‘Zero: Fever Epilogue’ was ranked 73rd.
In addition, ‘Outlaw’ recently entered the top 10 of the UK Official Album Chart Top 100 (June 23-29). This is the first time ATEEZ entered the chart. In particular, among the K-pop boy groups, only the global supergroup BTS and ATEEZ entered the top 10 of the chart.
With this album, ATEEZ broke its own record by achieving a million-seller in the first week (weekly sales after the album’s release). According to Hanteo Chart, it recorded 1,521,226 copies in the first week (counting period 16-22).
Meanwhile, US country star Morgan Wallen’s album ‘One Thing At A Time’, which had a fierce battle with ATEEZ for first place this week, reached the top spot again. 1 for a total of 14 weeks. After holding the number one spot for 12 consecutive weeks, it gave up the number one spot to American pop star Taylor Swift and popular K-pop group ‘Stray Kids’, but regained the top spot and kept it for two weeks in a row. The record of 14 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 is the most since Adele’s ’21’ recorded 24 weeks (non-consecutive) No. 1 in 2011-12.
